Best Paper Awards 2026

PhD & Postdoc Winners

During the CRC’s Annual Retreat at the Georg-von-Vollmar-Akademie, we celebrated the outstanding achievements of our early-career researchers by presenting the Best Paper Awards 2026. This year’s awards recognize important advances in the mathematical understanding of interacting Bose gases and fractional quantum Hall states.

Best PhD Research Paper — François Visconti

Awarded for:

(joint with L. Junge) Derivation of Hartree theory for two-dimensional attractive Bose gases in almost Gross-Pitaevskii regime. (Journ. Math. Pures et Appl. 2025)

(joint with A. Triay) Derivation of the 3D quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation (arXiv:2602.06481)

François Visconti’s research makes significant contributions to the rigorous derivation of effective theories for interacting Bose gases. His work with Lukas Junge extends Hartree theory to challenging interaction regimes in two dimensions, while his collaboration with Arnaud Triay establishes a rigorous derivation of the three-dimensional quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation for Bose gases with three-body interactions.

Best Postdoc Research Paper — Severin Schraven

Awarded for:

(joint with S. Warzel) Fractional Quantum Hall States: Infinite Matrix Product Representation and its Implications (arXiv:2601.12165)

Severin Schraven’s work represents an important advance in the rigorous mathematical understanding of fractional quantum Hall states. Together with Simone Warzel, he developed a mathematical framework for representing Laughlin states as infinite matrix product states. His key contributions include a novel construction of the underlying chiral conformal field theory and crucial estimates that enable quantitative control of the representation. These results have already provided the foundation for further advances in understanding the fractional quantum Hall effect.

We warmly congratulate François Visconti and Severin Schraven on their outstanding achievements!
