SUMMARY:A probabilistic approach to BEC
DESCRIPTION:A gas of interacting Bosons can be represented using an ensemble of stochastic diffusions – a Brownian loop soup. In this talk\, we review the construction of this Feynman representation\, its representation of Free Energy and the 1-PRDM. We also introduce some results from the literature in the dilute and other regimes and state some conjectures.

SUMMARY:On the asymptotic behavior at the kinetic time of a weakly interacting Fermi gas
DESCRIPTION:Describing the long-time dynamical behaviour of quantum systems is a long-standing open problem. \nWhen the coupling constant of the interaction is small\, the dynamics of the system up to kinetic time is conjectured to be effectively governed by the Boltzmann-Nordheim kinetic equation. \nIn this talk\, I will present a result on the two-point time correlation function of a system of lattice fermions at thermal equilibrium\, and I will explain how to approach the problem using a perturbation expansion and representing the appearing terms by Feynman diagrams. \nThis is joint work with Phan Thành Nam\, Herbert Spohn\, and Minh-Binh Tran.

SUMMARY:Validity of Kubo formula for 1d and quasi-1d lattice fermionic systems
DESCRIPTION:We study the dynamical density and current responses of a class of non-interacting\, one-dimensional gapless lattice Fermi systems subjected to density-type perturbations slowly varying in space and time\, in the infinite-volume and zero-temperature limit. In addition\, we analyse the edge density and current responses for quantum Hall lattice systems defined on a cylindrical geometry. \nWe establish the validity of linear response for these observables\, thereby providing a justification of Kubo’s formula. The latter is computed explicitly in terms of the spectral properties at the Fermi points and the profile of the perturbation. \nThe proof of linear response validity on the relevant time scales is based on a detailed analysis of the imaginary-time Duhamel expansion. A crucial ingredient is a cancellation mechanism in the scaling limit of higher-order correlation functions that describe the nonlinear part of the response. \nJoint work with Marcello Porta.

SUMMARY:The Widom-Sobolev formula for the free Dirac operator
DESCRIPTION:With the proof of Widom’s conjecture giving new insights on the entanglement properties of the non-relativistic free Fermi gas\, it is a natural question whether this situation extends to the relativistic case\, where the single-particle Hamiltonian is given by the free Dirac operator. \nIn this talk I give a brief introduction to both the Widom-Sobolev formula as well as the free Dirac operator\, and give an answer to the question above. I also talk about the strategy of the proof of this result\, in particular I show how it can be reduced to an application of another result from my PhD thesis\, a Widom-Sobolev formula for more general matrix-valued symbols. \nThe presented results were obtained in collaboration with Peter Müller.

SUMMARY:Mathematical Advances in BCS Theory of Superconductivity
DESCRIPTION:Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) theory is a successful model of superconductivity. In this talk\, I will begin by providing an overview of how BCS theory connects with other models of superconductivity\, highlighting major open questions and recent developments in the field. Second\, I will explain recent results on the critical temperature in the presence of a boundary in more detail.

SUMMARY:Algebraic description of infinite-volume lattice fermions
DESCRIPTION:The operator-algebraic description of quantum mechanical systems can be used to mathematically deal with systems\, where the usual Hilbert space description becomes inconvenient or breaks down. In this talk I will discuss how\, using this formalism\, one can describe a system of interacting lattice fermions directly in the infinite-volume limit. This will allow us to formulate and analyse properties of the bulk of the system\, such as the bulk Hall conductivity.

SUMMARY:What is the landscape function?
DESCRIPTION:For many problems in quantum mechanics it is important to have a good grasp of the operators modelling the system. The landscape function was introduced as a tool to compute spectral quantities of such operators. Numerical experiments led to many conjectures on what the landscape function should be able to capture. In this talk I will give an introduction to the topic and provide an overview of the progress made in the last decade.
